Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda 2026/2027

Introduction

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda for the 2026/2027 academic year supports academically talented, community-minded youth who face social and economic barriers in Rwanda and other African nations. The program aims to nurture ethical and transformational leaders to drive social change and the development agenda of the African continent.

Target Audience

• Citizens of Rwanda or any African country, refugees, or displaced youth in Africa.
• Meet standard academic requirements.
• Demonstrate urgent financial and/or social needs or have a disability.
• For undergraduate programs, applicants must be no older than 28 years at the time of application, or no older than 30 years for those with valid certification of exceptional living circumstances (such as refugees, single mothers, or child-headed households).
• Meet the admission criteria for eligible study programs at the University of Rwanda.
• Have a demonstrated track record of leadership and community engagement.
• Refugees and individuals with disabilities must provide legal proof of status.
